MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE PAILS. 1« Telegrtpfc.—Pr«ss Assn . Auckland, July 3. On the second trial of Alfred Thomas Dare charge of the manslaughter of A. J. Horton at Penrose on January 26, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. SHORTAGE OP GAS COAL. Wellington, July 3. Owing to a refusal of waterside workera to work a cargo of coal on Sunday the Gas Company will be compelled to cut off the supply on Monday morning, if the weather conditions then do not permit of the unloading of rations. The stock of cjjal is almost depleted. DAMAGES AGAINST NEWSPAPER. Wanganui, July 3. Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., has delivered judgment in the libel action of Ar-thur-John Joblin, Mayor of Taihape, v. the Taihape Daily Times for the full amount claimed (£200) and costs. The action was the sequel to correspondence in the Times alleging neglect on the part of the Mayor (Mr. Joblin) in connection with the influenza epidemic; IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT. Auckland, Last Night. A waterside worker named William Joseph McMahon, aged 20, was sentenced to two monthß' hard labor at the Police Court on a charge of the theft of clothing from the hold of the steamer lonic.
