RISE IN PRICES.
DEARER BREAD AND SUGAR By Telegraph.—tress Association. Wellington, Jul* 3. It is announced by the president of the Board of Trade (the Hon. ft R Lee) that the board, has givea careful consideration to .the statement made by the deputation of bakers to the Minister a week ago with reference to, the price of bread. A full inquiry has been made by the board, respecting tS* ac» curacy of the position as presented by the bakers and as to what would be a fair and reasonable increase in the price of bread in consequence of the incftosod production as detailed by the bakers. The board decided to sanction 4ft increase in the price of the 21b loaf as follows: North Island.—Cash over eoufcter, present price 6Jd, neW price 8d; jtolivered, present p'rlce 6jd) new price Old. South Island.—Cash over oqiiater, present price sid, new price s}d} delivered, present price s|d, sew prise 6i This means that the North Island counter sale will be Increased by one half-penny and delivery sales by ; one farthing, and all sales in the Sbiifh Island by one farthing. The increased prices will be chargeable from Monday. The Hon. E. P. Lee states that it has been decided that the.price of sugar shall be fixed at' £47 J f.6.b. Auckland, and £47 10s delivered in Auckland aUy, subject to J per cent discount lof «a«n. This subject will enable retailers to sell at Od per lb epept in places incurring heavy transit (charges.
