The death is reported of Mrs. Donald McLachlan. one of the early settlers of the Wairarapa, at the ago of 95 years. Messrs. S. G. Smith, W. T. Jennings, R. Masters, and 0. Hawken, Taranaki M.P.'s, are spending the weekend at their homes. A cable from London reports the death of Lord Downham, chairman of the London County Council, and formerly President of the Local Government Board,"aged CG. Mr. V. Membery, who is well known in Taranaki, and who has held a responsible position at the Eiverdale factory, has been appointed manager of one of the largest cheese factories in the Auckland province. The death occurred in Wellington this week of Mrs. Fanny Maria Valentine, relict of the late Mr. John Valentine, in her eightieth year. Mrs. Valentine was an old resident of Wellington, and one of the oldest settlers in Oriental Bay. Mr. George Wilson, the new member of the Board of Trade, is a Scotsman, who came to New .Zealand about 38 years ago (telegraphs our Wellington correspondent). He was in business in partnership with the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken until about five years ago. The members of the Board of Trade are now Messrs W jG. McDonald, P. Hally, and G. Wilson.' It is understood that the re-arrangement is not complete.
