THE BUTTER MARKET.
. A WAIKATO VIEW. . Auckland, July Ist. A cablegram received from London regarding the sale of New Zealand butter, at Home was referred to Mr W. Goodfellow, managing director of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. He said the position was apparently not fully understood in London, for no arrangement had been made for *!•<• fVOberative Wholesale Society to take the whole of the New Zealand ouifi..-, ii:uugji some of the smaller dairy factories iu New Zealand had decidel to sfell to that Society. As far as Auckland factories were concerned, Mr Goodfellow said that probably some would enter into the scheme, but the bulk of the butter from this district would be sold under pre-war conditions as soon as ever the market was available. The scheme for selling to the Cooperative Wholesale Society was only in its initial stage, and as far as his company was concerned the directors bad not yet been afforded an opportunity of seriously considering the matter. He did not think it probable that the proposal would be sufficiently attractive to Induce directors to make such a | drastic change at present. Mr. Goodfellow also mentioned that negotiations are in progress for the amalgamation of the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company and the Thames Valley Co-operative Dairy Company. These two companies manufacture! together at least dne-third of the. total butter made in New Zealand and shipped one-half of the total quantity exported from this country.
