NEW TARIFF BILL. Xf Ealegraph.—Press Assn.—CowrrlgK, Melbourne, July 2. The Federal Parliament, hag resumed its sitting. The House is debating the Tariff Bill. The Senate has elected the Hon. Mr. Thomas Givens president.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Received July 2, 10.5 p.m. Melbourne, July 2. In the House of Representatives, Mr. Mahon gave notice of motion deploring the state of martial law in Ireland, and stating the House is of opinion that the situation there created is inimical to the Empire, and conflicts with the theory that Britain entered the late war to vindicate and preserve the liberty of small nations; copies of the resolution to be forwarded to the British Government, President Wilson, and the Secretary of the Council of the League of Nations. Mr. Prouse gave notice of the introduction of a Bill to amend the Parliamentary Allowances Act. Mr. Hughes read correspondence between the Government ,and Mr. W. A. Watt (late Federal Treasurer), aiid stated that since he (Mr. Hughes) had returned from England Mr. Watt had resigned three times, the resignation on the third occasion being accepted.—Aus.N.Z.
