MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

NEW PLYMOUTH CASES. A silting of the Magistrate's Court was held at New Plymouth yestentuv, Mr. X. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presiding. BREACHES OF COUNTY BY-LAWS. On the information of Benjamin Tippins, Taranaki county inspector. Gordon Calvert, John Whcatley, Richard GiddyEdward Mason, and Leslie Hall were each fined 10s and costs 17s fid, for allowing stock to be at large on the county roads. On similar charges John Rowlands was convicted and ordered to pay 17 s costs, and Frederick Buekthonght was fined £2 and 22s Cd costs on each of two charges. For driving a cart on the New Ply-mouth-Waitara road nt night without lights, Thomas Wipita was fined 5s and costs 22s (id, and for driving a motorcar on tho New Plymouth-Waitara road at nignt without lights Bert Boon was fined 10s and costs 17s fid. Roy Frederick Clarke was convicted and ordered to pay solicitor's fee, 10s (id, for driving a motor-car on- the New Plymouth-AVaitara road at night without lights, and was convicted and dis* charged on a charge of leaving a motorcar unattended in Ariki Street at night without lights. INSULTING LANGUAGE. Geoffrey Alan Blundell, a commercial traveller, for whom Mr. Croker appeared, was charged with having, on May 22, committed a breach of the railway by-laws by using insulting language to G. R. Boswell, a clerk in the Railway Department, while in the execution of. his duty. A plea of not guilty was entered on behalf of defendant. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £2 and costs. CHARGE OF ASSAULT. Paul Zastrow was charged, on the information of Thomas Blatchley Cooper (Mr. Andeasonj, t with assaulting the complainant on June 17, 1920, and with having indulged in threatening behaviour towards the complainant for the past three months. After hearing evidence, Ithe Magistrate adjourned tho case for ' three months, in order to give the parties an opportunity of settling their differences amicably. Defendant was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution.. v TRUANCY. Ernest George was charged, on the in formation of George Paseoe, truant officer, with failing to send a child regularly to school. The Magistrate adjourned the case for one month, in order to see if the child's attendance at school improved. ALLEGED PROFITEERING. In the case of Charles Norman Johnson y. John Hale, in which the defendant was charged under tne Board of Trade Act. 1019, with selling two quarts of milk at the''price of 8d a quart, which was.held to be unreasonably high, Mr. R. H. Qnilliam, who appeared for defendant, said he had arranged with Mr. Croker, counsel for the complainant, to ask for a further adjournment until July 15, The Magistrate agreed to the adjournment.
