(Stratford Representative: W. J. Wilson, Broadway North. 'Phone 338. P.O. Box 123.) VALEDICTORY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) July 1. A pleasant gathering took place in the Municipal Buildings last evening, on the occasion of .a presentation being made to Mr. T. D. Sullivan, retiring borough engineer, from the members of the Council's staff. Mr. P. Skoglund, town clerk, presided, and referred to Mr. Sullivan as an old and valued friend, whom he hoped would be long spared to enjoy his rest from active duties. Mr. Sullivan had always done his work thoroughly and in the best interests of the borough. On behalf of the staff Mr. Skoglund expressed his pleasure in presenting Mr. Sullivan with a smoker's outfit. Mr. A. C. Russ also spoke appreciatively of Mr. Sullivan's work. Mr. Sullivan, in returning thanks, asked the members of the staff to support the new engineer as loyally as possible. GENERAL. A string committee of ladies has been set up to make arrangements in connection with the annual re-union ball of the Stratford Returned Soldiers' Association, which will be held about the end of July. The ball is looked forward to as one of the most popular held in Stratford during the year, and it is hoped that this year's function will be an even greater euccess than last year's. Building permits were issued by the jStratford Borough Council during June amounting to £3OOO. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., has been returned unopposed to represent the Central Ward on the Taranaki Education Board. Mr. A. A. Cuthbertson, of Stratford, has been appointed ranger and dog ta collector for the Whangamomona County The vital statistics for Stratford for the month of June, supplied by the Registrar (Mr. S. H. James), are as follows:—Births 20 (June 1919, 12); deaths 8 (1919, 4); marriages 14 (1919, 8). The figures for the quarter are: Births 63 (48); deaths 20 (13),; marriages 24 (13). A dance under the management of a sub-committee of the Egmont Club, ufas held in the Town Hall last evening, patrons spending an enjoyable time. Music was supplied by Fox's orchestra, and all the arrangements were excellentThe anniversary of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was celebrated on Tuesday night, when the hall was packed. | Rev. J. W. McKenzie opened the proceedings. Rev. Hoskin (Eltham) tendered congratulations from • the Methodist Church, and Captain Brown spoke on behalf of the Salvation Army. An excellent musical programme had been prepared by Mr. H. L. Betts, comprising orchestral items by Messrs. McAllister (2), Dick, Miss Moon and Miss Hopkins, also flute and piccolo solos by Mr. Dick, violin solo by Miss Hopkins, and songs by Rev. Neale and Mr. Aitken, Miss Moon and Mrs. Robinson. Supper wss provided by the ladies of the church, and the usual votes of thanks to performers and workers closed an enjoyable ingA meeting of the Stratford Returned Soldiers' Association was held last evening, for the purpose of discussing the action of the Government in withholding advances to soldiers. After several speakers had expressed their views, the resolution submitted by Dominion Headquarters of the R.S.A. was moved by Mr. F. D.
