BOWLING.
THE TARANAKI CENTRE. \ The annual meeting of the Taranaki Bowling Centre was held at Stratford yesterday, there being about twenty delegates in attendance. Mr. .1. D. Sola (President) ) occupied the chair. ANNUAL REPORT, The report of executive recorded another very successful year. The annual tournament held in January had been, a great success, the number of entries (83) being a record, and conclusive proof of the growing popularity of the gathering. In connection with the banner finals, thanks Were expressed to the Ingle Wood Club for undertaking all the arrangements. Inter-provincial matches were arranged with the Auckland and South Auckland centres, eight rinks taking part. This trip was a most successful and enjoyable one, the teams speaking highlv of the hospitality of the northern "oowlers. A suggestion had been made that the Taranaki team make a. tour South this season, playing matches' if satisfactory arrangements could' be made, with Wellington, Mahawatu and' Wanganui. Two new clubs had affiliated (Vogeltown and Avon), and one club (Okato) had gone out of existence. Regarding the coming tournament, the executive recommended the incoming committee to consider the question of playing two games of twenty-five heads each day, instead of three of twenty-one heads. The matter was being considered by the Dominion Council, the general impression being that if the suggestion was adopted it would tend to make tournaments much more enjoyable. The credit balance was £42 3s Bd, as' compared with £47 Bs 7d last year. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sjieet, the President remarked that the credit balance showed some £5 less than last year but against that there was some extraordinary expenditure of £7 7s, which would not be recurring; also trophies cost about £5 10s more than last year, and otheiyincreases were:--Labor £4, catering £lB, liquid refreshments £6. Taking these into consideration it would bo agreed that ti very satisfactory year had been experienced. The entrance fee 3 had, of course, shown an increase, but the trophies on this occasion had to be purchased out of the funds of the Centre, while last year they were donated. Mr. A. Smart seconded the adoption of the report. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr. McMillan nominated Mr. Sole to again act as President of the Centre, and he was elected. Mr. Spurdle (Inglewood) was re-elect-ed vice-president. The following executive was chosen: — Messrs. J. Foy, A. K. Smart, J. S. Lyons, S. J. Smith, F. J. Hill, and W. Lamhie. » Mr. A. T. Moore was again appointel secretary to the Centre, reference being made to the valuable work done during bis term of office. Mr- W. E. Percival (Inglewood) was re-elected auditor. Mr. A. Smart (present delegate) was nominated to represent the Centre on the Dominion Council. THE ANNUAL TOURNAMENT. With regard to the forthcoming tournament, the President favored adopting the procedure of having two games of 25 heads per day. He remarked that this would not make the tournament so strenuous, and would also enable the bowlers to observe Vegular meal hours, and give visitors to the town more leisure during their stay. Mr. McMillan moved that the tourna-, ment be held in New Plymouth as usual, arrangements to be left to the New Plymouth members of the executive, with a recommendation to adopt the suggestion as outlined by the President.—Carried. Mr. Firth moved that the citizens' match be discontinued. —Carried. Mr. McMillan put in a plea for a sealed handicap in conjunction with the tournament A resolution embodying Mr. McMillan's suggestion as a recommendation to the executive was later carried. A resolution was carried recommending to the executive that the tournament entrance fee be increased to £2 10s. It was decided that the Easter Pairs be abolished. It was decided that the Banner competitions be held as last year. GENERAL. The President estimated that another Club (Rahotu) had been formed, and he anticipated application for affiliation would be received in due course. % J , The next annual meeting is to be held at Stratford, an amendment in favor of Eltham being defeated by 8 to 7. On the motion of Messrs.
