PROTECTION FROM EVICTION. The question of continuing the protection of returned . soldier tenants against eviction is a burning issue with the Returned Soldiers' Association, and on Tuesday Colonel Mitchell, M.P., Waited upon the Prime Minister in regard to the matter. Colonel Mitchell received from the Prime Minister the following letter: "With reference to our interview this morning, and to the letter, dated the llth insi, from the secretary of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, I would point out that the provisions for the protection of returned soldiers from eviction are contained in •legislation which expires on August 31 next. As you will probably know, I have already given notice of the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill, and this will contain a clause extending the legislation above referred to for a further

period of twelve mohths.''
