BURDEN OF THE TREATY. MQRE HUMBLE ATTITUDE, By Telegraph.—Fresr Asaa.—Copyright Berlin, June 28. At a meeting of the new Reichstag, Herr Fehrenbach (Prime Minister) said that the Germans had scarcely recognised the heavy burden of the Versailles Treaty. The German Government had no alternative but to try to fulfil the engagements. Germany must carry out the disarmament and reparation stipulations. If all were not executed this would not be due to a want of goodwill. He appealed for mutual confidence between the nations to resume the economic development arrested by the war. "We consider it our principal task to end the fatal reaction resulting from mistrust of our opponents and our own failure to carry out the peace conditions by convincing our former opponents that among the German peoples the dreams of political might or thoughts of revenge would iind less foundation the more sympathetically they were met. Germany must also convince her opponents that every good German recognises that the sole rally cry is reconstruct in tranquility what the war destroyed."
