OEETING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. < OPEN STAKES. Fine weather favored the opening day's coursing held yesterday at Glen Avon by the j N'ew Plymouth and Egmont Coursing Clubs The officials were prompt fn getting the heats otf. , The opening bout showed the hare to be particularly strong, and after giving the dogs, Sea Plane and McDuff, a splendid course, made Irs escape safely. The bout went to Sea Plane. 1 In the third heat Bijou Clrl showed exceptional speed, and in a straight gallop caught the hare and registered a kill. The Wanganui dogs, Sea Plane and Forward March, were successful in winning both their heats, whilst the local dogs Gloaming and Gay Lad are also in the semi-finals* and judging by yesterday's coursing, should do : very well to-day. Although the coursing throughout wa® very keen, a low average of kills was obtained, the hares being well acquainted with the escapes In the unavoidable absence of Mr. t. Jenkln-. son, the duties of judge* was efficiently carried out by Mr. C. Waolford, who was prompt ta bis decisions The seat?-3nals and finals will be decided this afternoon.
