BY-LAW INVALID.

AN IMPORTANT JUDGMENT. By Taleeraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. An important judgment was delivered by Mr. Barton, S.M., to-day. A borough by-law states that motorists must sound their horns at all street intersections, and recently Frank Wrey Noland, a well-known barrister, wa.i charged with a breach of the by-law. The defendant pleaded not guilty, but accepted the police evidence as facts.. The defence was that the by-law was unreasonable, and therefore void, and outside the authority of the Borough Council.

The Magistrate, in his judgment, stated the by-law was unreasonable, and therefore invalid.
