While a -wedding ceremony was in progress in a Cliristchurch church the bridegroom suddenly fell over backwards in a fit. Restoratives were imiTHidiiately applied, but it was ten minutes before the man could be restored to his full senses. The friction which has arisen between the Cliristchurch wholesale dairymen and the Board of Trade in relation to the price of milk has ended. The Board has agreed to the rate of Is Gd per gallon a 3 the wholesale price, and 7d per quart as the retail rate. These prices take effect from July IS, and will remain in force during July and August. After then the question of prices will be reconsidered. By this decision the Board has conceded the demands of the producers, who refused to, agree to the price of Is 3d per gallon wholesale.— Press Association.

A busy month in shipping at New Plymouth is anticipate/1 during July, when three oversea stoaißers will visit' the port. The first of these to arrive will be the Papnroa, which is due to load next week. In addition to taking meat from the Smart Road works, a consignment from Waitara will be railed to New Plymouth to be loaded on the Paparoa. About the middle of the month the Kumara will come here to load meat and dairy produce. The other oversea vessel 'is the Donald McKay, which arrived at Auckland yesterday morning from New York, and which has a cargo of benzine to discharge at New Plymouth.

The present conditions of employment in New Plymouth formed the subject of a query which a representative of the Daily News yesterday 'put to the Inspector of Labor. The inspector said the local branch of the Labor Department had been fairly busy this month as compared with the corresponding month of last year. There have been II! applications for work from laborers, live of whom were sent to work. Seven applications have been received for cooks, farm-hands, laborers, etc. Owing to the shortage of building material and the wet weather many unskilled laborers have been out of work, but skilled labor, such as carpenters, bricklayers, etc., have been in fair demand. For private reasons Mr. J. T. Pain, president of the New Zealand Labor Party, has declined nomination for any office for the year 1030-21. Mr. Paul will preside at the annual conference of the party, which will open at Wellington on July S. The following are the nominations in connection with the election of national officers:—President, Messrs John Rend (Wellington) and Peter Frascr (Wellington); vicepresident, Mrs. Snow (Wellington), Messrs Fred, E. Cooke (Cliristchurch), J. A. Looney (Dunedin), James McKenzie (Wellington), Rod. Ross (Palmcrston North), M. Silverstono (Dunedin), P. Vinnell (Timaru); secretarytreasurer, Messrs Moses Ayrton (Palmerston North) and T. Brindle (Wellington). The New Plymouth Sash and Door Company are booking orders for the next shipment of Wilson's cement. Board of Trade forms can be obtained on application to the offices, Gill Street, j New Plymouth.*

Mr. 51. E. Holland (Bullcr) lias given notice to move for a return showing the number of military officers, commissioned and non-commissioned, now in the employ of the Now Zealand Defence Department; also detailing the rank and salary of each officer.

The public meeting arranged by the local branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, to discuss the suspension by the Government of advances under section 2 of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act, will be held in the Soldiers' Club at 8 o'clock to-night. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. Clarke) will preside, and there will be several speakers. Meetings are being held simultaneously by every branch of the E.S.A. throughout the Dominion. Messrs E. Nelson and F. Grove, representatives of the International Bible Students' Association (New Zealand section), are at present in New Plymouth making arrangements for presenting the Biblical lecture entertainment, "The Drama of Creation."
