The Egmout Club held a very succesiSul social last evening, when the large fathering present participated in games .'I cards and billiards, and eiijoyeit an jxccllent musical programme. The president (Mr. T. Lawson) welcomed the cuests, and stated that the club intended holding further socials in the lear future. Orchestral items were rendered during the early part of the evening by Fox's Orchestra, and, later, a varied and popular programme of vocal and elocutionary items was contributed by a Hawcra concert putty, consisting of Mrs. Cate, Messrs, Douglas, McFadgen, Procter Hale, Cate, and Weir. Hearty appreciation was shown of the programme rendered, and a vote of thanks was tendered to the Hawera visitors and tc the members of the orchestra. There was a large gathering at tin A telegram was received in Stratford to-day from Mr. It Masters, M.P., stating that arrangements have been ma 3( with the Board of Trade for a ship ment of cement into Patea about Juh 4th. Douglas Hall last evening, the occasion being a farewell social to Mr. Arthur Needham and family. A'presentation was made of a beautiful silver fta serrice and tray, by Mr. E. Wa.ter, who said that Mr. Needham waf the oldest settler in the district. A comprehensive programme was gon< through, consisting of selections by Stockley's orchestra, items by Mesdame: Papp and Thomas, Misses Wilmshurst Kovaleski, Needham, and Walter, anc Messrs. Cole, Reader and F. Fox (cornel solo). Accompaniments were played by Mrs. Thomas, and Misses Wilmhurst and Bredow. Dancing was continued tc music by Mr. and Mrs. Stockley, and Mr P. Fox. Mr. J. Wylie was M.C. A well attended gathering of Stratforc and Wharehuia friends assembled in tin Stanley last evening to bid au revoir to Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton an' family, who are leaving the distrtot to take up residence in New Plymouth Mr. Wellington (chairman of the Schoo' Committee) presented Mr. and Mrs Hamilton with a silver tea service on be half of friends. Afterwards a bounteoui supper, provided by the ladies, was par taken of and dancing was kept up til' morning hours. Music was played b; Mrs. Bianchi, and Mr. Chard was M.C. GUN CLUB. There was a good attendance at th shoot held at Messrs. Neteor. and Green's property yesterday. Results:— No, 1 ISweep, 9 birds. —F. Whittle (1! yds), 8 birds, 1; H. Harrison (19yds), 't biVds 2. Jenkiw Eltham (12yds), 13 birds each, dividing the prize money; in the shoot off for thi medal, Casey won on the fifth round Eleven competed. No. 3 Sweep, -12 birds.—F. I. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. Stratford, June 26. The general committee of the Stratford A. and I'. Association met this afternoon, the president (Mr. G. Sangster) occupying tire chair. The question of farming the showgrounds was brought up by Mr. A. H. Wuggett, who said that his principal object in wishing to 'see the grounds farmed would be that the Association would get a. caretaker to look after the grounds, which at present were in a dilapidated condition. On the motion of the chairman a faj*m committee, consisting of Messrs Husgctt, M. T. Phillips, and Hunt, was get up to go into the matts and report at a, subsequent meeting. The advisability of eliminating the dflg section from the show was discussed, it fceing stated that last year this section showed a loss of about £SO. Mr. H. A. iHunt moved that the section be deleted. Mr. H. Kendrick seconded. Mr. J. W. Boon remarked that the dog section had proved nln attraction |to townspeople, who otherwise might not visit the show> also that the Association obtained additional members on account of the dog section. Replying to questions, the secretary (Mr. A. J. BarrJ said that last year the entries in the dog section were 321, compared with 253 the previous year, and '291 in 1!)17. , During the discussion it was suggest- . Ed that the Association should hold Bjieep dog trials. Mr. W. Pettigrew favored the space at present used for this purpose being used for the home industries section An amendment, moved by Mr. E. Linneli, that the question be deferred till the next meeting, and that in the meantime meirfbers of the Association prominently interested in dogs be asked to attend the meeting, was carried on a show 1 of hands. , A plan of the pimposed new cattle stalls was' forwarded by • Mr. J. W. Boon. The dimensions of the building would be 80 feet by 27 feet by 10 feet stud, stalls 10 feet between, holding two cows each. The building would be so arranged that additions could be made from time to time. The proposal received the hearty support of the members and the plan was adopted. Sir. Kendrick brought up the matter of providing suitable accommodation boxes for draught entires. The chairman promised that the matter would be kept in view. The following new members were elected: N. Graham, Ngaere, TOKO SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION There was a big gathering at the Toko Coronation Hnjl on Friday evening, the event being the Settlers' As- ' sociatidn's annual social. Winners of prizes in connection with the field and ' butter-fat competitions were presented with the -trophies by Mr. J. W. Deem Government Fields Supervisor, whe spoke of the value of the work being taken up. Qtnteicat items were contributed by Misses Black and Maunsell Mrs. Buchanan, and _Mr. P. Aitlcen. Ac companiments were 'played by Misses Niven and Black and Mrs. Maunsell. Dance music w provided by Mrs Bianchi (piano) and Mess A Parker (cornet), Vinsen (drums), and Dick (plc> colo), extras being supplied by Miss , Bredow and Mr. C. Fox. Mr. M.
