GATHERING OF V.C. WINNERS. HONORED BY ROYALTY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received June 27, 11.50 p.m. London, June 26. A most remarkable gathering of heroes assembled at Buckingham Palace this afternoon, on the occasion of the King and Queen entertaining 320 Victoria CroBS men and their near relatives at a garden party. Great crowds cheered the guests as they marched to the Palace, headed by Sir Dighton, Probyn, the oldest V.C. Those unable to walk were accommodated in motor cars, and were given an especially warm reception. Their Majesties and the Royal family inspected the gathering, and subsequently each was personally presented. Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ILL-CLAD HEROES. V.C, WINNERS OUT OF WORK. Received June 20, 5.5 p.m, London, June 24. The secretary of the National Federation of Discharged Soldiers says that several are declining the King's invitation to the Victoria Cross Garden Party because they are too poor to obtain decent clothes. They were'advised to attend, as it would show the public their condition. Employers generally Rre avoiding Victoria Cross winners, thinking their psychology unfits them fbr civil employment.—Reuter Service, "
