RECOMMENDATIONS OF COMMITTEE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 26. The Conciliation Committee appointed to consider the matters in dispute between the Railway Officers' Institute and the Department concluded its sitting 3 yesterday. It recommends the following: That the bonus now paid to members of the First Division be cancelled as on and after April 1, 1920, and that a bonus at the rate of £2O per annum be granted to each member of Grade 8 (cadets), and a bonus at the rate of £SO per annum for Grades 2 to 7 (inclusive), and to captains, mates and engineers of the Lake Whakatipu service, as on and after April 1, 1920. That the bonus recommended for Grades 2 to 7 be taken into consideration in respect to the salaries of members of Grade 1. That the lodging allowances for subgrades 1, 2 and 3 be £4O, £3O and £2O respectively. That for married members the minimum rate of pay be £lB7 10s per annum, casual clerks to be eligible for advances to minimum rate of pay provided for Grade 7. Hours of duty to be worked by officers at centres to be specified later fixed at 38 per week, hours at other places to . be 48 per week, with time off for work in excess of that period; seven hours to constitute an "all night" shift. Special provision is recommended governing Sunday work, and the scale of Sunday pay ranges from 4s per hour for officers in receipt of over £270 per annum to 2s 3d for those getting not more than £165, bonus to be considered in assessing rates of pay. Annual leave is to be brought into uniformity with the Public Service provisions, and the limitation to 42 days accumulation is to be cancelled. Leave rota is to be cancelled for officers. Other recommendations are made for ' increased travelling advances and for re- , duction of the time necessary for a mem- ' ber to serve in any grade to qualify for ] the maximum superannuation and retir- , ing allowance in respect to such grade. Other recommendations are of minor importance.
