THE LEAGUE (SAME. AUCKLAND BEAT THE DOMINION* By Telegraph.—Pi;ess Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Rugby League team defeated the Rest of New Zealand this afternoon. The game needs little description as Auckland completely outclassed their opponents in the back division and coming out winners to the tune of 54 points to nil. Rain fell during most of the afternoon, and the ground was muddy. The Aucklanders handled the greasy hail with great accuracy, and raanv excellent passing rushes were witnessed. At half-time the score'was 2G to nil. Davidson, the Auckland three-quarter, did most of the scoring, others who crossed the line being Cloak. Woolley. Summers, and Walters. The visitors showed very boot combination, and were all at sea with the greasy ball. Their forwards showed to most advtange, but received little assistance from the back division. The Southerners played better in the second spell than in the first, especially in the loose dribbling rushes, while their tackling was much more solid than in the -opening half. In spite of the rain there jvaa a large attendance of spectators. TEAMS FOR TO-DAY. Carroll, Shotter, Chard, Anderson, Osborne, Hoy Vickers. TEAMS FOR SATURDAY. Okato seniors to play Old Boys, at New Plymouth, on Saturday.—Cnrbett (5), Andrews, Espln, Shotter, Pox, . Tautane, McCarthy, Anderson (2), Jones, Hawke, Whenare. The Wangnnui Rugby Union has decided that the Patea-Waverley match is to be replayed. Patea seniors defeated Waltotara ,pn Saturday by 14 points to nil. The Waverley-Opaku match ended in a draw, neither side scoring. Patea A and B met on Saturday, when each team scored S points. The new president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. James McLeod, is one of the Dominion's foremost enthusiasts for the game, and one of Taranaki's best known (public men (says the New Zealand Times). Mr. McLeod hails from the south, which many a sturdy Scot calls home. He always had a leaning towards tiro national game of this country, and the work he has done for it has earned for him the highest position the world's champion Bugby nation can give.
