CHOOSING A LEADER.

FRONTIERSMEN'S COMMANDER. GENERAL RUSSELL PROPOSED, The Dqminion Conference of the Legion of Frontiersmen, sitting at New Plymouth, decided yesterday to send a letter to General Sir Andrew Russell, inviting him to accept the position of commands: of the Legion. Lieut. J. A. Miller, of the Heretaunga Squadron (Hastings) said that at Hastings recently General Russell paid a warm tribute to the work of the Legion, and expressed a hope that he would some day become a Frontiersman himself. The consensus of opinion in the Legion, added Lieut. Miller, was that they should keep clear of the Defence Department if they wished to retain their identity and individuality. General Russell was not connected with the Defence, Department; ho was a private citizen anxious to do what he could do for the Dominion and Empire in any good cause. If they asked him to become 'their commander he would give the Legion that necessary fillip, and he felt certain that if the proposal was made to General Russell, he would consider it most favorably.

Colonel C. H. Weston said that if General Russell accepted the position he would do a great amount of good for the Legion, and he was just the right man for the position.

Lieut. Miller moved a resolution in aacordance with his suggestion, and it was carried.
