PRICE OF TIMBER.
INCREASE AUTHORISED. The Board of Trade advises that authority has recently been given to the Auckland and Waikato sawmillers and timber merchants to increase the prices of timber by amounts ranging from 2s per 100 for o.b. classes to 3s 6d per 100 for first-class kauri. These prices, it is explained, are necessitated on account of the increase in wages recently awarded by the court to sawmill workers in these districts, evidence having been submitted to the board that the increases in price . are justified on account of the additional costs incurred as a result of the increase in wages. The increase granted by the board is said to be merely sufficient to cover the recent additional increase in wages and does not allow for increased profits to the sawmillers,
