Foxton, June 23. At a meeting of the Borough Council and the Chamber of Commerce held last night, it was decided to urge upon the Government the linking up of the Main Trunk line between Marton or Greatford and Levin in order to relieve the congested traffic at Palmerston and to obviate the huge expenditure on the Palmerston deviation. It was pointed out that the linking up would shorten the journey between Auckland and Welling'ton by over an hour and that the saving in haulage alone would pay the interest on the construction. It was decided to hold a conference of local bodies to further discuss the matter, and in the meantime to communicate with the Prime Minister and the member of Parliament for the district.
