OUTLOOK FOR MEAT.
NEW MARKETS AT GOOD PRICES BUT NO SPACE PROCURABLE. (By Telegraph.—Special Reporter.) Palmorston North, Last Night. Many people think that the bottom will fall out of thmgs when the Imperial (ioverninnet control ceases, remarked Mr. W. D. Powdrcll, M.P., today at the meeting of the New Zealand National Dairy Association, but he considered that they were quite wrong, and that as good prices, or better, would be available. As instances of this he Btated that as chairman of a freezing company he had received since the commandeer of meat ceased, an oiler from the Continent at a much Better price than the Imperial Government had given for a considerable quantity—so,ooo tons—of mutton. They fiad also received a much better offer from America. They had tried to get space in a vessel loading, but were not allowed to fill it, though he had not heard that the boat took a full cargo. He did hot think the price of meat would effect the price of cheese to any extent, but he would like to see a resolution passed urging on the Government the necessity of getting the cheese away next year. Ho pointed out that by January Ist the Government would have 3,000,000 carcases in store, and it would be to the detriment of the dairying industry if cheeso did not get fair treatment in regard to shipipng space. The freezing companies were already pressing the Government, and the shipping companies l to get shipping space carcase for carcase with the State meat for their meat, and it was up to the butter and cheese people to press for equal treatment-
