THE PRINCE.
AN HISTORIC EVENT. AT NEW FEDERAL CAPITAL. By Ttlepapli.-Prtss Assn.-Copyrlght. Received June 22, 1.25 a.m. Sydney, June 21. The Prince had a great reception en route to and from the Federal capital site at Canberra, where, in the presence of a distinguished gathering, including the Governor and many legislators, he performed the historic ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the future Federal Parliament Houses on Capitol Hill. The function, which was carried out in threatening, showery weather, was marked by a ceremonial display and rejoicings commensurate with such a not-" abla event in the history of the Commonwealth. On the way to Canberra, the Prince inspected Duntroon military college. Speaking at Queanbeyan, the Prince expressed gladness at laying the foundation stone of the Capitol, which, offered a splendid opportunity to Australian architects. Many thousands of people attended the ceremony, numbers riding and driving fifty miles.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Sydney, June 21. The Prince was ill-atrvlaed in sporting ventures as far, at least, as Sydney was concerned. On Saturday he tried his luck in five or six events on the card, and the nearest he got to a winner was Silrerton, which ran a dead-heat in the Gold Cup. He lost £44 on the day. He spent two comparatively quiet days after the races. He dined with the Governor on Sunday and the Cathedra#, which was thronged.' Twenty thousand people gathered in the vicinity to view the Prince enter. He also Randwick military hospital. Last night the Prince departed for Canberra to lay the foundation stone of the Federal Parliament House.
