BRAVERY RECOGNISED.
TWO HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS. The bravery of two pupils of the New Plymouth Girls' High School—Misses Margaret and Francis Brown—in saving two school mates from drowning on the Fitzroy beach on March 9, 191S, was brought to the notice of the court of directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand by the headmistress of the school, aud the society, after due consideration of the circumstances, decided to award a bronze medal and certificate to each of the girls. The medals and certificates were received yesterday morning by the town clerk, with a request that they should be presented in as public a manner as possible, and this wish will be carried out at an early date. Each medal is engraved with the recipient's name and the words, "Awarded for an act of j bravery, 9th March, 1918." ■» The circumstances of the case are that two girls—Misse Flora Cameron and Rohan Bell—got into difficulties while bathing and were being carried awav by the current when the Misses Brown went into the surf and rescued them from" their perilous position.
