TREACHERY.
TURKS FIRE ON INDIANS. BRITISH CRUISER OPENS FIRE. By Telegraph.—Pfets Assn.—Copyright: Constantinople, June 17. A British outpost, consisting of a company of Punjabis was suddenly surrounded by a superior force of Turkish Nationalists on the Ismid front. The British commander decided to withdraw, the Nationalist commander agreeing not to hamper his retirement. The advance guard was allowed to pass without mishap, but the Nationalists treacherously opened fire on the main body wounding 30 and taking an intelligence officer prisoner, j Reinforcements were immediately Bent to the assistance of the Punjabis, while a British warship kept the Nationalists at bay, shelling their positions. It appeals certain that Mustapha Kemal was much chagrined at the British barring his way to Scutari, but whether he, or the local commander, ordered the attack is unknown. BRITISH LINES ATTACKED. Received June 18, 8.20 p.m. Constantinople, June 18. Admiral de Robeck has gone to Ismid, where two English cruisers are anchored. Seven thousand of Mustapha Kemal's followers attacked the British lines. A Scottish regiment was sent to reinforce the British, and for the moment quiet has been restored. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
