RARAWA MAY BE WITHDRAWN COMPANY HAS NO INFORMATION. During discussion at yegterday'l meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board, the chairman, Mr. Newton King, referred to the fact that the Rarawa wan shortly to be supplanted by -the Hi mil, and remarked that he had heard It was going to be New Plymouth's farewell to the Rarawa. "I understand," added the chairman, "that the Ngapuhi ia to be placed on th« run permanently. This is a very retrograde movement, and the Company have been keeping it as quiet as they could," The discussion was interrupted by the arrival of a deputation, and the matter was dropped. The matter wag inquired into at th» New Plymouth office of the Northern Steamship Company yesterday by ft Daily News representative, but he fj.il' ed to elicit any further information regarding the matter. The New Plymouth manager said it was the first he had heard of the proposed change, and he would be very much surprised if It proved to be correct. AN OFFICIAL DENIAL. GENERAL MANAGER'S STATEMENT (By Telegraph,—Special to New#.) Auckland, Last Night. The statement that the Ngapuhi r»> places the Rarawa permanently on the West Coast trade is denied by Mr. Raneon (manager of the Northern Company), He states that arrangements have been made for the Rimu to relieve the Rarawa at the end of the month -while the Rarawa takes up the Manaia's running in the Whatigarel trade, and the Manaia replace* the Ngapuhi in the Tauranga trade, while, the latter vesesl_ lays up for general overhaul, TSe change is only temporary.
