THE CULT Of THE JERSEY.

GREAT SALE AT INGLEWOOD. RECORD PRICES FOR TWO TEAR HEIFERS. Tliat there 19 still an unsatisfied demand for good pedigree Jerseys was manifest on Saturday, when despite the fact .that there had already been two pedigree sales last weelt, there was a very large attendance at the dispersal sale of pedigree Jersey cattle In the estate of the late Mr. H. B. Curtis, which was conducted by Mr. Newton King at his Inglewood yards. The arrangements for the sale were, ns usual, first-class, a spacious well seated marquee having been provided in anticipation of the bad weather which occasionally prevails at Inglewood. However, on this occasion, the weather was perfect, but for convenience the sale was held in the marquee. There was a big catalogue, no less than 93 head being submitted, but Messrs. Ken. I\ Kirk and R. Cottier, who wielded the hammer, were both In good form and everything was sold at very satls- ; foctory prices, the 93 lots totalling 7488 guineas. All the cattle, with the excepI tlon of the yearlings, which were a little | rough, were Id, fine condition for this time of the year, a tribute to the management of Mr. G. Schofleid. The forty-eight cows were submitted first, and averaged 83 guineas, top price being realised by the four-year-old cow Beautiful May, which was secured by Mr. J. Dobson, of Kalmata, for 200 guineas; ah aged cow, Grand Duchess, fell to Mr. ".I. Mortlock, of Normanby, nt 190 guineas, whilst the five-year-old was secured by Mr. Hynes, of Inglewpod, for 180 guineas. Several others fetched over 100 guineas. Two-year-old heifers were in particularly keen demand, the 20 submitted averaging 101 guineas. Countess was purchased by Bert Luiton, of Omata, for 225 guineas, which is said to be a record for a two-year-old heifer. Miro's Blossom fell to Mr. J. H. Street, of Bell Block, at 169 guineas, whilst Mr. Luxton secured Harmony Girl for 155 guineas. 8. ,1. Sutton, of Waltoltol, paid 130 guineas each for Miro's Ruby and Mlra. Indeed. a feature of the sale was the fact t'" 1 ' 'ie bulk of the cattle are remaining »'• "nrnnaltl. The fourteen yearling heifers mweii over 52 guiqeas, top price being 97 mtudas, The six-year-old bull, Mlro Meadows' Star, realisefl 120 guineas, going to 8. McDonald, of Kakaramea, whilst his two.year.old son, Mlro Meadows' Sapphire, was secured by Mr. H. Hodge, Alton, for 150 guineas. The six yearlings averaged 55 guineas. , Riverlea's Star, O. Bennett, 81 guineas, just beating Rlvsrlca's Duke, O. H. Lake (Awaklno), 90 guineas, for pride of place. The results of the sale are as follow:
