[Stratford Bepresentatlve: W. j. Wilson, . Broadway North. Telephone 338.J June 11. The Stratford Tennig Club's end-of-season ball was held in the Town Hall last night, and was a very successful affair in every respect. Although the weather conditions were moat unfavorable, this did not affect the p.ttendance, which was very satisfactory. Elaborate preparations had been made by the energetic committee, and the hall and supper room, which had been tastefully deco"ated, presented a most attractive appearance. The music was provided by Fqx's orchestra of five players, and was very favorably commented on. Messrs F. Elgar, P.' Aitken, R. G. Jamieson, and D. Cameron , were the MjC.'s. During the evening a waltzing competition was won by Mr. J. Bennett and Miss McDonald, out of six entries.

Mr. G. TP. Rogers, a member of the Stratford Football Club's senior team, who has also been secretary of the club, was farewelled lest evening by a number of members of the club, prior to his departure from Stratford .to take up farming at i'e Puke (Bay <Si Plenty), where his parents now reside. Mr. R. P. Harkness, .president of the club, on behalf of the members, presented Mr, Rogers with a handsome wallet, and wished him every prosperity in the future. Mr. and Mrs. R. Masters, who have been-to the South Island on a holiday, will return to Stratford to-morrow (Sat> nrday) night. A hard-up ball will be held in the Town Hall on Thursday next, undor ths 1 direction of Mr. C. H. Fox.

There is'a pronounced shortage of matches in Stratford at present, ani some of the storekeepers have had to stop supplying any but tneir regular customers. •

STRATFORD GUN CLUB. Under boisterous weather conditions, the Stratford Gun Club held a shoot at Elthsim yesterday, at which there was a satisfactory gathering of ■ competitors from Stratford,. Hawera, and surrounding; districts. Following are the results of the'competitions:— Novice Shoot (nine birds), for sweepstake and medal donated to Mr. Vincent. —P. Jenkins; G. W. Hurrell, A. Ware and W.. Busby s tied with seven birds each, the medal going to the first-named after a shoot-off. Twelve competed. Open Members' Sho#t (twelve birds), for trpphy presented by Mr. B. C. Wheeler (New Plymouth) and special donated by a local tradesman. —H- Harrison (18 yds) won right out, securing twelve; JK. Pawsori (15yds) was second and won the special. E. I. Tuke (10yds) and P. Gunderson (15yds) tied for third with ten birds each. Sixteen competed. No. 3 Shoot also brought out sixteen competitor,' and H. Harrison (19yds), P. Gundereon (15yds), J. Petrie (10yds) and (layda) tied with five each, "Petrie winning the shoot-off.
