NEW PLYMOUTH WINTER SHOW.
CHILDREN'S DAY YESTERDAY. SHOW CLOSES TO-NIGHT. Favored by fine weather, the Winter Show at New Plymouth was well patronised yesterday, which was Children's Day, and the majority present during the day were children, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There was a good sprinkling of adults present during the day, and in the evening the hall was well filled, the total attendance for the (lav being in excess of last year. The ladies who have charge of tho afternoon tea again had a busy time, as did also those in charge of the stalls. A number of competitions run in connection with the stalls were decided lastnight, the winners being as follows: — Cushion, W. Scott; model bungalow (donated by J. C. Rowe), J. Waters, Bell Block; cosey, N. Langley, Vogeltown; ham. Mrs. H. C. Sampson.
In the pigeon section a bird entered by Mr. \V. Heals, that had been wrongly classed, was awarded first prize. for tumblers, feather legged, any color hen. During the evening Mrs. Moverley's orchestra again rendered a programme of music that was gr'eatly appreciated. The show will be open to-day and finally to-night, closing at 10 p.m., and given fine weather there should bo large attendances. The guessing competitions in charge of Mr. N. W. Hill, in which substantial prizes are offered Tor guessing the weight of a pony and a nheep, will be decided at 9 p.m. Included in Newton King's exhibit at the Winter Show are some beautiful swedes grown by Mr. J. W. H. Martin, of Wai-iti Koad, Pnkearuhe, showing what that district can produce when farmed systematically.
