LICENSING COMMITTEE.

TARANAKI ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Licensing Committee was held yesterday, there being present: Mr. T. A. B. Bailey,- S.M. (chairman), Messrs. F. P. Corkill, W. Ambury, J. S. Connett, tmd J. S. S. Medley. An apology for absence was received from Mr. K. George. New Licenses. —New licenses were granted as follows:—F. C. Emeny (Mr. 11. R. Billing), for the Oakum Hotel; E. 0. Meredith (Mr. Billing), Okato Hotel; and E. D. Hammond (Mr. A. K, Staudish), Breakwater Hotel. Transfers.—A transfer of the license for the Breakwater Hotel from Thomas Knowles was granted to E. D.' Hammond (Mr. SUndish). Renewals.—Renewals were granted as follows:—Mrs. Maria McKean (Mr. Billing), Criterion Hotel; Edward McGinty, Grosvenor Hotel; H. J. S, Brookman (Mr. Ronald H. Quilliam), White Hart Hotel; E. Whittle (Mr. Quilliam), Red House Hotel; and T. Richards (Mr. J. C. Nicholson), Imperial Hotel. In regard to the application of W. G. Emeny (Mr. H. R. Billing) for a renewal of the license of the Royal Hotel, the police drew attention to the unsatisfactory nature of the. construction of that portion of the house in which the bar was situated, and the application was adjourned for a week to permit of the committee inspecting the place. When application was made by Mr. Billing on behalf of Mrs, Rebecca Tabor, for a renewal of the Terminus Hotel license, Mr. Corkill raised an objection, notwithstanding that the police and Health Inspector's reports were favorable. Mr. Corkill put in an objectiou on the ground that the license was granted by the committee last year conditionally upon the house beinz rebuilt during tlie year, and as this had not been done he opposed the granting of the license. Consideration of the application was adjourned for a week. A packet license was granted to the Northern Steamship Co. for the s.s. Rarawa.

A wholesale license was granted to Messrs, Goldwater Bros., Brougham Street, New Plymouth. The Committee adjourned till noon on Thursday, June 17th.
