MILITARY BALL.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The second annual military ball of the A. Company Territorials, Now Plymouth, took place at the Coronation Hall last night, and was a very successful affair. The committee that managed the ball are to be congratulated upon the excellent and complete preparations mad?, and for the manner in which the programme was carried through. Their effort fully deserved the support and patronage that was accorded the function. The hall was very attractively decorated. Punga fronds, strings of colored electric lights, and festoons of flags, botii large and small, gave a bright appearance to an otherwise unattractive building, and crossed rifles, fixed to the walls at intervals round the hall, completed the appropriateness of the scheme. T\u whole of the preparations were carried out by the Territorials without outside assistance, except in regard to the supper arrangements. In this connection they were assisted by a committee of ladies, to whom they are indebted. When the proceedings commenced there ware between 600 and 700 persons present, and others were still arriving up to a fairly late hour. The Citizens' Band gave the music for the first part of ; evening, and Mrs. George's orchestra fo!i lowed on for the remainder. The Grand March was led by Lieut.-Col.-Chaplain Evans, while Mrs. Leech and Major Leech, with Mrs. Evans, followed. Amongst others present were the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. .Tas. Clarke) and Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., and Mrs. Smith. Dancing was kept up to a lata hour, and thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated. The following were the ladies' committee, to whom the Territorials are indebted for assistance with the supper arrangements:—Mesdames George, McKenize, Ennis, Drury, Hughes, Rock, Roberts, Stroud, McKay, Reynolds, and Bremnuhl. Following are the members of the Ball Committee who also acted as M.'sC.: — Messrs. L. B. Pellew, J. Renaud, ,T. Gadd, F. Sheppard, R. G. Howell, C. Hughes, C. McGinty, D. Lobb, and W. L. Hughes.
