MURDER CHARGE.

RETURNED SOLDIER IN COURT. ECHO OF MAORI'S DEATH. »y Telepapb.—Press Association, _ Whangarei, Last Night. Wirimu Pito, a Returned Maori soldier, was charged formally at the Whangarei Court this morning with the murder of Douglas Kaupoka, another returned native soldier, by shooting him at Mokau, in the Helena district, on Sunday last. The incident was at first supposed to be one of suicide, but it has since been stated that a gun was lying behind tho deceased on a bed, and that other indications disposed of the suicide theory. No particulars were revealed in Court, and the accused was remanded for eight days on the application of the police.
