CITIZENS' BAND.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tl|e Now Plymouth Citizens' 'Band was neld at the Soldiers,' Club last night, Archdeacon' Evans (president) occupying the chair. Tlftre was a fair attendance, and several apologies for absence were received. Prior to the meeting tho Band played a number of selections nt the corner of Brougham and King Streets. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report dealt fully with all the activities of the band for the present year. The committee's thanks for assistance and donations during tho year are extended to Mr. and Mrs. C. IT. Burgess, the Tarar.aki Jockey Club, the Borough Council, Mr. J. Hoskin (for organising socials), Messrs. Messenger and Griffiths, Mr. A. J. Tunbridge (lion, auditor), the Taranaki Daily News, the Taranaki Herald, Deputy-Bandmaster Taylor, and the conductor for his attention to the affairs of the band; also to the Park and Seaside Committees foy their willingness to help on all occasions, and to Messrs T. Avery and Sons for free programmes for the various recital'. The committee solicit a continuance of the generous support accorded the band hv the public. , The balance-sheet showed the total receipts to have been £IO2S 5s 2d, and the credit bWlanee was £2BO 14s sd. The assets were set down at . £1703 4s stl, and the only liability was a £2OO mortgage on the bandroom. . In moving the adoption of the report (ind balance-sheet, the chairman remarked that among the many assets possessed by the town the iwind was one of no mean order. It had come through the time of early struggle to a position of having assets to the value of nearly £ISOO. There was not only an efficient band, but a very excellent set of bandsmen, and he thought, the whole organisation merited liberal public support. He made Complimentary reference to the splendid work of Mr. E. Sole (chairman of the Citizens' Committee), and Mr. H. R. Cattley (secretary), fn concluding, he complimented the band pn the excellent work done during the year, and on its very satisfactory financial position. He thought for the current year steps should be considered for liquidating the small mortgage remaining on the new bandroom. The motion was seconded by Mr. S. (' Smith, M.P., who endorsed the chairman's remark*, but regretted the apparent lack of interest shown by the general public in the affairs of the band. The report and balance- sheet were adopted. On the motion of Mr. McLeod (conductor), a resolution was carried expressing appreciation of the work done hy the members of the committee during the year, Mr. McLeod remarking that they made as much sacrifice as anyone in the interests of tin band. BANDMASTER'S REPORT. Tho bandmaster, in his report, after referring to the very satisfactory financial position said further provision ought to be made, if the band was to do itself and the town credit on the concert and contest platform. The loss of bandsmen during the year by removal from the district was a matter for regret, and these and other difficulties had made the year a somewhat trying one. Notwithstanding all the drawbacks, good work had been done, and the performances: given by the band had been very creditable. In conclusion, tlie bandmaster expressed his appreciation of the work of the bandsmen and their loyal support, of the convenience of having such a worthy deputy-band-master as Mr. A. Taylor, and of flw work of the secretary and members of the Citizens' Committee. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as fol-. lows: Patron, Mr. C. H. McGinty, Dr. H. B. Leatham, Dr. W- R. Wade, E. Whittle, J. tf. Barthorpe, C. C. Ward, H. Collier, W. .T. Hotievficfild, Dr. Fookes, Dr. E. A. Walker, T-' C.. List, Dr. Home, Major Sandford, J. li. Cruickshank, and Edgar Carter; citizens' representatives, Messrs. C. Bond, L. Little, R. Kibby, and J. Hoskin; lion, auditor, Mr. A. J. Tunbridge. , Special votes of thanks were accorded to Mr. Tunbridge, and Mr. Cattley for their splendid services, and also to the local Press for the assistance rendered to the work of the band. GENERAL. It was decided to pay off the mortgage remaining on the bandroom out of the credit balance. Felicitous wishes were extended to Archdeacon Evans and Mr. W. J. Penn for their well-being during their absence from New Plymouth.
