POSTAL OFFICIAL ROBBED. By Teleerapli —Press Assoclatta. Auckland, May 29. At six o'clock last night a postal'official at Runclman, when about to enter his office, was accosted by a man with a revolver who seized a sum of money, took the postman's bicycle and rode away. The police search for the offender has so far been unsuccessful. WAR RELIEF FUNDS. Wellington, May 20. A report presented to the War Relief Association states that there lias been a great increase in the claims from Imperial soldiers and dependents, many of whom arrive in New Zealand without money. The Association lias requested Sir James Allen to ascertain whether money should be sent to New Zealand for the benefit of such immigrants. The committee did not consider that war funds raised for New Zealand soldiers should be expended on people sent from England and suggested that no immigrant should be sent without tile a PProval ot " the nigh Commissioner. The chairman said the association was being asked to provioe for some of these people, and the Charitable Aid Board was being burdened. Some ivere in ill health and should never have ben allowed to come. They required assistance on arrival. He mentioned the- case of a woman of 31 who arrived with five children. Her husband was to come in six months, but meanwhile the wife had no means. While many immigrants were quite desirable some became a charge on the country at once. Suggestions had been made to the Government.

The present expenditure of the association is about ;830.(X)0 annually, and the funds will be exhausted in two years. It jg proposed to set aside a definite proportion of the money in hand for permanently and totally disabled men and others who may break down as the result of their war experiences.
