TE POPO. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Miss M. Death, who lias been school teacher at the Ackland Road School for the past two years, and is now leaving for Kalmata, was ravewelled at a representative gathering of residents held in the schoolroom on Thursday evening. i f , n °x. chairman of, the School I Committee, made a. presentation to Miss Death I or ft travelling rug and attache case, and i» n .fj ,*°. tflc & 00(I abilities she had exhibited during her two years at tho school, also expressing best wishes for her future success in the profession. Mr .T, Oldrigde and Mr. Dingwall also paid a tribute to Miss Death's good work ns a teacher. Tho function took the form of a euchre party, the ladles' prize being won by Miss VVinnie Knox and the gentlemen's by Mr. Rmgwali. At the conclusion, supper was handed round uy tho ladies. Owing to the efforts of a few energetic settlers in tho district a dally mall service has now been Inaugurated. MAKURI ROAD. i (From Our Own Col-respondent.) 11 To celebrate the closing of the season, the suppliers held a social verently when a very enjoyable time was snent at the residneo of Mr. D. Low. The season has been a record one, and in recognition of the services of the manager, Mr. T. A. Gardvnc occasion was taken during the evening to show their appreciation. Last vear a valuable gold wjitc-li was presented to Mr. Gardyne and this season a gold chain to match the token ofl their esteem. Mr. H. R. Wickham I tmtule tho presentation in a well-chosen speech ' which was heartily applauded, and tho re- 1 ' cipient made a short suitable reply, thanking Ml for their kind expressions of thanks and congrMulating them on the splendid manner in which they had worked together for tho success of the creamery. Mr. T. R. Julian aiso presented Mr. Gardyne with a prettv gold medal, suitably Inscribed, in recognition oi Ills kindness and attention to the wants of the settlers in the district. During the evening a surprise party arrived front Toko and added to tho enjoyment of the gather-' it" . jr>inin £ ' n the cards, songs and dancing , I? was W) until the small hours or the imorning.
