OVERTAKING DELAYS. ; With the arrival of the Corinnn, at the breakwatpr with a record 'shipment of cargo from the South Island and Wellington, it is said that the major portion of the overseas; cargo which has been lying in Wellington for some time, has now been lifted- Recently the Rosamond came here from Wellington with nothing but transhipments, and the quantity brought by the ' Corinna has very considerably relieved the congestion in Wellington so far as shipments for this port are concerned.

The Mapourika is being put on to load at Wellington on Wednesday next, but preference is to be given fn her to merchandise from the town of Wellington for this port. If space permits she may bring what other cargo is awaiting transhipment hereA Press Association message from Wellington says:— •"■■^9 The chairman of the HaAnr Board, replying formally to complaints of delay in transhipping consignments of goods to New Plymouth, informed tho board that the difficulties that hai| arisen were beyond their control. The banks were closed during the Priiice's visit and shipping documents were hung up, besides which there were holidays and heavy rain retarded the worK, and the railway stiike helped the congestion.

Importers sold goods direct from the wharf and caused a shortage of stoMge space by spreading out the consignments into small lots. The hoard would have to consider refusing sub-orders for the delivery of cargo other than produce.

At the end of April, and in May, the sheds were congested, labor was short owing to influenza, and short shipments resulted, but before that there was no serious accumulation of New Plymouth cargo.
