OBITUARY.
■ I MR. BEN". A. HIGNETT. •) Mr. J. M. Hignett, of Stratford, has { just received word by mail of the death c of his eider brother, Mr Ben. A. Hig- J nett, who died at his home, St. Bran- v nocks, Mount Grove, Cheshire, at the g age of 63, on April 3rd. The late Mr Ben, Hignett was for c many years resident at Waitara and S Inglewood, and held important public t offiees in the earlier days. He will be n well-remembered by a host of old friends 11 throughout Taranaki. Amongst other " positions held by the late Mr. Hignett 11 was that of member ef the New Plymouth Harbour Board, Taranaki Edu- n cation Board, and Waitara Town Board, on all of which he did gool ? About eighteen years ago Mr t Ben. Hignett decided to return to his , native land, and has since resided *on ■ his estate near Birkenhead, wherS he died. The late Mr. Hignett is survived by his wife, but leaves no sons or daughters. Those who knew him best will recall t some remarkable episodes in Taranaki t polities and affairs, in which the late d Mr Hignett was concerned, and as a t fearless platform speaker and newspaper v correspondent, he was widely known, a He always had the welfare of' Taranaki k at heart, and did a great deal for Wai- 9 tara especially. The cause of death „ was sudden heart failure, deceased e not enjoying robust health for some ( years, and having collasped in church j, quite recently. He apparently made a good recovery, but passed peacefully a away in his sleep on the morning of April 3rd as above stated.—Post. ============= T
