RETURNED SOLDIERS.

NEW PLYMOUTH ACTIVITIES.

lhe nct.ivitips of u, e Now Plymouth branch of the .U.S.A. during the past year are set out in the annual report to be presented at the annual meeting next Monday evening. The report states: The number of new niemuom unrolled is ;{SB, which brings mu- total membership up to 804. Ten have been transferred to other branches, including one who has gone to England; while fifteen have been tvauafererd to ours. We have lost three by death, and one had to be expelled. Unfortunately, out of the SO4 mentioned 107 are vtiifinanr.ial, which is far from satisfactory, but it is to be hoped that most of these will recognise the need for keeping up their membership with the association, which exists for our mutual benefit. We have lost by death three of our members during the. year, and our deepest sympathy is extended to their relatives and friends. We have been able to arrange, for military funerals in each case, and our members have attended in large numbers to show their respect for our departed comrades. We owe n deep debt of gratitude to Bandmaster MeLeod and the Citizens' Rand for tlieir kindness in playing at the funerals, often at great personal inconvenience, anil also (o the High School cadets for providing firing parties. Owing to the building we occupy being required by the Harbor Board for offices, there was ft dangjsr of our being obliged to look out for another home. But, happily, arrangements have been made by the board to rent us half of the present premises at an annual rental *bl £65 from January 1. The statement of the club accounts has been before your executive, and has caused considerable anxiety. The actual working of the club* for the seven months ending March 31 shows a

distinct, loss, winch is very disappoint.- j ing to the • executive, aiicl imist be to members generally. The receipts will require to show a considerable increase during; the current year, as the club will he faced with a further liability of approximately £10(1, mainly made up .by rent, and loss of one of our means of revenue, viz., renting of rooms.
