Constable Penson, who has been transferred from Mastertoii, has taken up nis duties in charge of the Whangamomona station. The grand concert and dance which is being held in the Town Hall on Thursday night, under the auspices of the stratford A. and P. Association, promises to be a highly successful fuuetion, and already there have been heavy bookings for seats. The committee in charge of the arrangements has spared no pains to make the entertainment thoroughly enjoyable in every respect, and has engaged four well-known Wanganui artists of high reputation. The party consists of Madame Emily Briggs (soprano), who has sung on several occasions at the Albert Hall, London; Mrs. Ivo Symcs (contralto), Mr. F. H. Wilkie (humorist), and Mr. T. W. F. Robertson (tenor). The box plan may still be seen at the office of the secretary (Mr. A. J. Barr), Broadway, Stratford. Following the concert a dance will be held, Fox's orchestra having been engaged to provide the music. Prices of admission are advertised in this issue. MR. R. MASTERS, M.P. COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL TO-NIGHT. A complimentary social and dance will be tendered to Mr. R. Masters, M.P., and Mrs. Masters, at the Stratford Town Hall to-night.. The proceedings will take the form of a social evening, followed by a dance, and everybody is invited to be present. The speakers will include the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald (leader of the Liberal Party), Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P. (Taranaki), Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P. (Waitomo), Mr. D. L. A. Astbury (Eltham), Mr W. Morrison (Pateaji, Mr. G. Young (Inglewood), and Mr. J. MoAlister (Stratford). The Mayor of Stratford (Mr. J. W. McMillan) will preside, and presentations to Mr. and Mrs. Masters will be made by Mr. Young. The programme will commence at 8 o'clock, and the speeches will be interspersed with vocal and musical items, the best talent having been secured by the committee. Fox's orchestra has been engaged for the evening, and excellent catering arrangements have been made. Ladies are specially invited to attend the function, the matter of bringing a basket being optional. Business men who wish to get the best value out of their shop windows are notified in our advertising columns that E. G.
