AMERICAN FURS AND WOOL By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, May 21. Fur auction.sales show the prices of furs to be 25 to 30 per cent, lower than at the spring sales. There Is a general tightening of the markets with an attendant fall In prices. A number of small dealers throughout the country failed, while others were saved after receiving aid from the American Fur Dealers' Association. The policies of the banks, In restricting credits, Is held responsible. The Australian wool being auctioned under British Government auspices suffered a 10 to 20 per cent, fall In prices. Or 18,569 bales offered, mostly merinos and other fine grades, only 5500 bales were sold! Spinners' seventies, and shafty fleeces, brought 93 to 9*l cents per pound. Similar grades were J bringing 108 to 125 cents three weeks ago. Tho remaining 13,069 bales will bo offered today, and will be offered for private sale if unsold. Buyers agree that the peak of the I high prices of wool has been passed. The present move to dispose of the Government stocks of wool Is considered to be a move to restore the pound sterling foreign exchange market. INGLEWOOO SALE. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.)
