FOOTBALL.
SENIORS. TUKAPA (fl) t. ELTHAM (0). Through some misunderstanding there was a little delay before the above match could be commenced nt Western Park yesterday afternoon. After the local playars had arrheu on the ground a telegram was received from the secretary of the Eithniu Club saying that conveyances had slipped them up, and they were sorry they would be unable* to play. Several of the Tukapa men left the froitnd, and iu a shori while spectators began to arrive on the ground, sume of whom had seen the Elthani players arrive in town. The matter was explained when rh» visitors reachTarr:, the telegram heint; intended to refer to the. junior teatm who were unable to get In. The Tukapas then stirred round to collect their players, and were successful in ;:et'in£ most of the selected members back on tl\e field. Whittaker was not there when the frame commenced, but was allowed to take his place when he arrived, and his substitute retired. The blues kicked off from the soutTj. ana loose play followed in their opponent's terrltory till the blacks were penalised and Oliver ,iad an attempt at kicking a goal, but the shot was unsuccessful. Prom the drop-out play was carried to the blues territory until Priar brought relief with a long kick, which found the line well inside the visitors' 23 flog. Close play followed in which the forwards on both sides plaved with vigor, and the blocks were compelled to force down. Shortly after this McLean got a. chance and dashed over the line, but Oliver was unable to add the estra. points. For a time the play was on neutral ground until a good kick sent the ball back to Priar, who failed to get rid of It in time and his side penalised in a dangerous position. Cameron's attempt at kicking a gosi was a failure, and shortly after the whistle sounded half-time. On resuming, the visitors gained the advantage and compelled the blues to act on the defensive for a good time. Relief was brought by a good kick by Oliver, hut. the advantage was lost, through want of smart following up. The blues then became aggressive, lite forwards making a very determined rush, and in the attempt to stem it an Eitham player faulted, which ga.ve the blues a free kick right In front, of the coal nnsts, though nearly half-way down the field. Oliver made a splendid shot, and the points stood, o—n. In favor of the home team. From the kick-off again play resied for a time in Tukapa where there Was a lot of scrlmmagliu- until the b'ne forwards made another offensive which brought them near the black- line. While in their opponent's territory Crnie took a mark, but the shot v,s unsuccessful The blacks again forced the game, and compelled the blues to force down. In the play which followed there was a good deal of infringement of the rules which the referee dealt leniently with In the final stages the Tui:ipt hacks showed up better than anything that Imd been seen throughout the whole game, and H Oliver was stopped near the corner only just in time to prevent a try helng registered The whistle sounded a few minuses after, the score being Tukapa G, E.'tftam 0. Sir. 0. V. West was referee.

A heavy hailstorm came on just before the match comnen-ced, but during the first spell the weather kept fairly, good. The game was cr.nsn cunus by the lack of combination in both teams, and tha poor work at passing One unfertunatr feature was that the ground had been nrepared, a wide shallow hole which had becsr used for the water jump nt last year's A and P. About, midway in tho second spoil, McDonnell secured a try for Stratford, which was neatly converted by Collins. After more patchy play came another try for Stratford, scored by Cameron, Collins failing to convert.
