DISPOSAL OF A COLLECTION. By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Resentment is expressed by the trustees of the will of the late Major Brown at v the attitude of the authorities in Wellington in endeavouring to secure lus collection of insects for the Dominion museum. One of the trustees Btatcd to-day that in a letter sent to the trustees last October prohibition against export was absolute and final. There was nothing about it being merely for a time. As a matter of fact the object of prohibiting the collection from leaving the Dominion seemed solely that it should go to the Wellington museum. ALLEGED CARGO BROACHINGWellington, May 10. Gordon Davis, a watersider, was committed for trial on a charge of theft of various articles of clothing, footwear and cutlery, which had been missing from coastal shipments, of the total value of £4O.
MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS. Hokitika, May 19. The Hon. J. G. Cpates is visiting Westland and reached the Coast via the Otira Tunnel yesterday. Accompanied by members of the Westland County Council he visited various farms in the district and received a deputation, local requirements being urged. The Minister was entertained subsequently by local bodies and to-day, accompanied by Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, MP, is visiting the Kokatahi settlement. Tonight he is to be entertained by the Returned Soldiers' Association, and tomorrow, after inspecting a serious encroachment at Harihari, the Minister is to proceed to Greymouth and the north.
