WHOLESALE DESTRUCTION. WAR AGAINST AUTHORITY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 16, 5.5 p.m. London, May 15. A Dublin Castle bulletin states that fifty Irish police barracks were destroyed on the night of the 12th inst. Over twenty income tax offices were attacked, and books and documents seized. Several Courthouses were also attacked. Eighteen further police barracks and five income tax offices were destroyed by fire on the 14th inst., explosives being used- The Maynooth Town Hall was amongst those destroyed on the 14th inst.—lmperial Service. SENSATIONAL REPORT DENIED. INCREASED MILITARY ACTIVITIES. Received May 15, 5.5 p.m. London, May 14. The Evening News says an official denial is ffiven to the sensational report from Dublin that the plans of General Sir Nevil Macready (Commander-in-Chief in Ireland), include the establishment of hundreds of blockhouses strongly garrisoned, implying that a virtual reconquest of Ireland was intended. The Government, however, decided to greatly increase military activities in the outlying districts where Sinn Feiners are usurping local authority.— United Service. CAMPAIGN OF TERRORISM. FIRES AND RAIDS CONTINUE Received May 18, 5.5 p.m. London, May 14. A party of armed men surroiuuled Cashel Courthouse, saturated the building with petrol, and then set it on fire, completely destroying the premises. Tlte police barracks at Carruchburg have been blown up. The Dungraven Post Office was raided, and official letters seized.—Aus.-NZ Cable Assn. A STRONGER GARRISON. WAR TACTICS~SUGGESTED. Received May 16, 5.5 pm. London, May T4 It is reported in Dublin that Sir Nevil Maeready's new plans to cope with lawlessness will be based on Lord Kitchener's methods of dealing with guariik tactics in the Boer war, including a network of blockhouses, manned by troop? equipped with machine guns. The report is not confirmed. Perhaps it has arisen through the announcement that the police will be afforded military protection on a wider scale.
