JOINERS' AND BRICKLAYERS' AWARD. By Telejrnph.—Press Association ... Auckland, May 13. The Arbitration Court award, for the Auckland carpenters, joiners, brickmakers' operatives and stonemasons' unions, which it is understood will operate as a Dominion award, fixed the hours of work at 44. The minimum wages of journeymen carpenters, joiners and joiners' machinists are 2a an hour, bricklayers and stonemasons 2s l'/ 3 d an hour. In addition a bonus of 3d an hour is to be paid on all outside jobs. A worker who is responsible for the carrying out of work and who gives instructions to other workers shall receive not less than Is a day extra. Overtime is to be paid at the rate of time and a half for the first three houfs And double time thereafter. Apprentices will receive: First year 15s a week, second year 22s Gd, third year 30s, fourth year 37s fld, fifth year 435. On passing an examination apprentices will be entitled to not less than 5s pel week extra during the fourth year. Stonemasons working iir n'i 1 will receive 2a Od extra, bricklayers time and a quarter for all hot or dirty work, for chimney stacks and towers over 40 feet in height and standing apart from any build in;:, and work done in two or mofe inches of water or where water is dripping on the worker, except where gumboots and oilskins are provided, all repairs to bakers' ovens, retorts, furnaces and old work and inside work of the same in constant use done during ordinary working hours, double timo; if done on Sundays or holidays, treble timo. The provisions are not to apply to permanent hands employed hy the city corporations, gas companies, biscuit and confectionery manufactories, or the Colonial Sugar Co.
