THE RUGBY GAME. | TUKAPA (9) v. STRATFORD (0). At Western Park, Stratford and Tukapa seniors met yesterday afternoon, and after a very fast and interesting same Tukapa were successful by a margin of three points. Neither team was at full strength, Stratford being without Masters and Hogan, whilst Tukapa were without I'rlar, BoavveH, Cocker, and O'Grady. Carlson fton the toas from Oliver, and Tukapa kicked off against half a. gale. Tukapa immediately attacked, and forced Stratford on to their line. Play had only been in progress live minutes when Stratford were penalised for off-side play, and H. Oliver kicked a. beautiful goal from almost the touch* Linfr—Tukapa 3, Stratford nil. Tukapa continued to attack, the weak play of the Stratford backs letting their forwards down. King and Carlson led the country forwards bark to half-way, where K. Stohr secured, a.nd with a fine kick, found touch close to the Stratford line. Stratford were again penaliswl, aad ft. Oliver once more placed a fine goal. Tukapa thus led by six i>olnts with about a quarter of an hour gone. This reverse seemed to liven Die red and blacks up, and they camo away with a great rush into Tukapa territory. A blue forward being caught off-side gave Collins a kick at goal. The'ball struck the upright and curled over— Tukapa (6), Stratford (3). Stratford continued to attack, making good use oE the wind, Tukapa team were playing a great game in the loose, and the tackling of Hurley was a treat. Berg started a passing rush in the blue's 25, and the ball went out to Rogers, who although well tackled on the line, was awarded a try. The kick failed—Tukapa. (6), Stratford C. Half-time was called with no further score. On resuming Stratford kept the game very tight, and play was confined to the forwards. Tukapa backs endeavoured time and again to get under way from open play, but the superior weight of Stratford forwards dominated the scrums, and the blue backs were rotable to show their superiority except on rare occasions. The Tukapa backs were kicking splendidly, and from a high kick by Hooker the blue forwards swooped down- on the Stratford line. From a scrum Early missed scoring by inches. Mulling by the blue fullback let Stratford Into Tukapa's territory, and the situation looked ugly. King got offside through over eagerness, and H. Oliver lined at half-way. Stratford forwards were playing a tine game in the scrum, but their backs, Berg excepted, gave them little help, in marked contrast to the Tukapa backs, who supported their light vanguard admirably. From a scrum just Inside half-way, Whltaker sent the ball to Hart, to Sim, to Hooker, who made a fine run, but In cutting out the Stratford centre and full-back, stumbled and fell almost on the line. Tukapa again got going in the back, and Stohr passed to Hart, who raced over. Oliver failed to convert. Tukapa A. Stratford 6. Mr. P. Roberts refereed. , ELTHAM (13) V. INGLEWOOD (3). Inglewood seniors journeyed to Eltham yesterday, where they were defeated by the 351tham seniors by 13 to 3. FIRST JUNIORS. Midhlrst beat Clifton by 6 points (two tries) to 3 points (a. try), at Midhlrst. The Inglewood-Stratford match was decided at Inglewood, and resulted in a win for the home team by 14 points to 8. In spite of a stron,'': wind which swept the field good forward play, with occasional glimpses of back play, was witnessed. For the visitors, .1. Bennett and O. Cross scored tries. G. Collins converting the former'. The Miles Bros, scored all the points for Inglewood. Roy MUe3 scored a try and G. Miles converted, and also kicked three penalty goals. Mr. Frank Julian refereed. Toko juniors defeated Star juniors by 1C points 8. THIRD GRADE. Stratford District High School defeated Eltham by 19 points to nil.
