RESERVE T.

. EXCHANGE STILL HOPED FOR. At the meeting of the Taranaki Education Board yesterday a letter was rea<i from the New Plymouth Borough Council intimating that the Council could not see its way to re-open the question of the proposed exchange of Bites. Mr. S. G. Smith said it was a matter for regret that the Borough Council had taken the action it did. The.'2 ]»id been a good deal of misrepresentation, and he feared that some of it was deliberate. He was not sure that all the Councillors understood the position. Most of the members of the Board had been over the Standish estate, and had been unable to find a suitable site for the technical school. He could not find any record of the Board having asked the Council for Reserve "T" as a site for the technical school, but he believed an officer of the Department had advocated the exchange. Tf the opposition to the Board's proposal was continued, there would be nothing for it but to establish a number of small schools in the western portion of New Plymouth. He considered the Borough Council had not treated the Board cither courteously or fairly. All that had been asked for was a conference to go into the whole matter- He suggested that a combined deputation of all those concerned in the proposals should wait upon the Borough Council and ask for a reconsideration of the matter, which was of such vital importance that persistence waa justified. Mr. White said the town clerk had been approached with a view to outlining the position of the proposed exchange, and it came as a surprise to learn that the Council had arrived at a decision without hearing those interested

After some further discussion it was understood that the Committee in charge of exchange matters was left to take such action as they might deem advisable.
