PLUNKET SOCIETY.
MONTHLY MEETING. On Monday afternoon the committee of tlie Phinket Society held its monthly meeting. Mm. Burgess presiding. It was pointed out that some of the new-ly-elected committee had been unable to attend owing to sickness. Apologies for absence were received from liesdames Barthorpe, Chanev, Duff, Boss, Shaw and Miss Stanford. '
Mrs. Dennv-Brown was elected to fill the vacancy on the committee and Mrs. R. Cock was appointed a vice-president. Mrs. J. Clarke (Mayoress) wrote accepting the position of patron to the society and said that she would always be prepared to give any help she could to this valuable organisation-
The nurse's report was then read as follows:—Babies under care, 149; mother* preparing milk in home, 96; mothers shown how to make milk, 6; adults to rooms, 260; babies to rooms, 178; letters, 5. It wfis»nlso stated that during the last seven days an average of 40 mothers daily had visited the rooms. This showed that the scope of the work had increased to such an extent that it was thought that a second nuree would very soon be needed. A motion put to that effect by Mr 9. Burgess was seconded and carried unanimously. The statement of finance as prepared by Mr. Sydney Burgess for the month ending May 7 showed a total credit balance of £360 14s 9d, to which had to be added a further donation of £2 2s from Mr. and Mrs. W- C. Weston. . The reports of the car committee and house committee were tlieu read and approved. General remits for the next Dominion Conference were then proposed and discussed.
Pluuket Nurse Williams wrote applying for her holiday as from the beginning of June 5. —Granted.
It was proposed that the secretary be instructed to inquire if the Stratford nurse would be able to visit the New Plymouth rooms, once a week, during the local nurse's absence, the rooms to be left open during the week for the convenience of the mothers.
It was decided to call a special meeting on May 2-1, at 3.30 p.m., to discuss plans for the Dominion Baby Day and to arrange for a day at the Winter Show, in the meantime the secretary to apply for space for the provision of a babv creche at the show, where mothers could have their children minded for a small nominal charge.
A welcome was extended the new committee and it was also agreed that the Mayoress of the town should always be asked to become a patron of the society as a mark of respect.—Mrs. Clarke* who was present, said she was very pleased to accept this position, and remarked .that the mothers of New Plymouth were very lucky in having such a society, and especially lucky in having a nurse like Nurse Williams to help them.
During the afternoon Mrs. Burgess entertained <3ie committee to a dainty afternoon tea, which was thoroughly appreciated by all. The committee wish to acknowledge with thanks the following subscriptions: Mrs. Parker £l, Mrs. Waldie £l, Mrs. Coppin £2 2s, Mrs. Condie ss, Mrs, Humphries £l. Members are ask«d to note that subscriptions for 1020-21 are now due.
