BOXING.

THE HAWERA TOURNAMENT. INTERESTING BOUTS. The boxing tournament promoted by the Hawera. Sports and Pastimes Club, and held In the Opera House, Hawera, l'aat night, proved a decided success. There was a large attendance. In the professional bout between J. K&enan (Auckland), 9.9, and VV. Oliver (Taihape, and formerly of New Plymouth), 8.8. the latter had the advantage of the earlier round?, particularly in the in-flghting. About the eighth round Keenan began to force the fightIng, and his aggressive tactics, together with his extra weight, told. Oliver was floored early in the tenth round, and his seconds sklrd the towel.

In the amateur bouts, Wilson (Tauamarunul) U.j, and Bond (Wanganui), 10.12, met in the middleweight contests. The latter was disqualified early in the sixth round for holding, and the tight was awarded to Wilson, who was leading on points at the time. In the heavyweight bout, Canute (Stratford) 11.9, heat Pope (Toko), 11.13, on points after an Interesting and willing bout. Both showed considerable science

In the featherweights, O. Conn (tt'ansanul) proved too good for Buckley (Tnumarunui), 0.1%. The latter, quite a lad, put up a plucky fight, but Cann had the advantage in reach, and in tho fourth round the referee stopped tho bout, and awarded It to Cann.

In the flyweight crjitest, W„ Fl'attery : (Manunui), 7.4Vj, heal Chas. Haddon (Manunul). 7.0. v . c. R. k, Cummlng was referee; Mr. ft. Mahoney tho official announcer; and Mr. * • *'• Shepherd, time-keeper. Tho nrrangeements for tho tournament, were splendid, and reflect creat credit, on the committee, nnd particularly' tho secretary (Mr. ratte'rson).
