FIRE AT BISCUIT FACTORY. By Teleeraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, May 11. A fire ocurred shortly after i> o'clock this morning at the Southern Cross biscuit factory in one of the confectionery packing departments. The brigade was hampered through the seat of the fire being situated about 800 feet from the nearest hydrant, but succeeded in connning the fire to the department hi which it broke out upstairs. The damage is estimated at about £IOOO. The gutted section of the building was insured for £SOO. Four firemen had a narrow escape from the fall of a portion of a brick wall. WELLINGTON TRAM AGREEMENT. Wellington, May 11. The Mayor (Mr. Luke) stated to-day that a complete agreement had been reached with the Tramway Union on all points in dispute and the new conditions will come into operation immediately. RAILWAY STRIKE INCIDENT. Wellington, May 11. At the Lower Hutt Court, Leslie Wilson and Clarence Wilson were each fined £25 for obstructing the working of the railways. The case arose out of an incident during the railway strike. The defendants had turned off the station lights as the train approached the Hutt. The stationmaster said that only by good fortune a serious accident was avoided. The Magistrate (Mr. Page, S.M.), said that he would have sent accused to gaol without the option of a fine if it hod been possible under the Act, as such acts were too serious and could not be tolerated. POWER OF ARBITRATION COURT. Christchurch, Last Night. The following resolution, passed by the executive of the New Zealand Related Printing Trades Association, has been forwarded to Mr. Massey:— "We are of opinion that the time has now arrived when the Court of Arbitration should be granted powers to give immediate effect to any bonus granted to workers, .either by a notice in the Gazette or in the Press. At present, in some instances, a delay of months takes place before the workers get the benefit of decisions of the Court. Under the present system considerable expense is entailed un the applicant unions, and also waste the time of the Court." RAILWAY STATION BURNED. Gore, Last NightThe Mataura railway station, consist ing of five rooms, rebuilt seven years ago, was totally destroyed by fire this afternoon. All papers and fittings were saved. The origin is a mystery. A bucket brigade and chemical extinguishers saved the fire spreading to outbuildings and the station-master's residence, which were threatened by x high wind.
