The returning officer (Mr. Purcell) was engaged to-day in continuing the work of checking the rolls and counting the absent voters' ballot papers. Mr. R. Masters received a further batch of congratulatory messages today, including one from Mr.. H. Poland, M.P., who said: "Tt affords me special pleasure to tender you my congratulations on a very well-deserved win." Altogether over 2000 of these messages have come to hand. The death took place yesterday at her residence on Monmouth Road of Mrs. Elizabeth Cathro, wife of Mr. H- S. Cathro, who has been farming on the Monmouth Road for a number of year?. Deceased left three sons, Harry and Sidney (Stratford) and Kennett (Auckland). Word was received to-day by Mr. H. Huckstep, of Lepperffta, who was resident at Midhirst for many years, of the death of his brother Tlfomas at Awatuna yesterday. This was Mr- Hitckstep's last remaining brother, another having died during the influenza epidemic. The news came very suddenly, »s it was not known deceased had been ill.
