STATE ADOPTION PROPOSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn— Copyrljlit. Received May 0, S.o p.m. London, May 7. The House of Commons read a second time a private Bill providing for the registration, at the time of birth, of the alleged father of an illegitimate child. The father would bo required to confirm or disprove paternity. He may be ordered before birth to support the mother till after the child is born, and made liable for maintenance. The maximum affiliation order was fixed at £2 weekly. The Home Secretary objected to the Bill, and said the Government hoped to establish a committee to consider the legalised adoption of illegitimates in Britain.—lmperial Service.
